It’s Time for Personality Management!
Have you ever consider something like “personality management”? Does it sound confusing? Consider time. When we feel pressed for time, is it tempting to blame others? The truth is, the way we spend or lose time is our own choice. Instead of working on that task or doing something productive, you definitely want to binge-watch TV all day. It’s all about you and nobody else. Learning how to control your time doesn’t happen. It can be a long process involving the management of your time, the creation of new behaviors, and plenty of trial and error. Getting to know yourself better is the first step in recognizing your time management style. This self-discovery tool allows you to recognize the time management attitudes and habits you have that hinder you. Self-evaluation is never an easy task. How can we make it easier? DISC Time Management is one of the approaches to understand how we can get a handle on our time and reduce our level of stress. We feel less anxious and more relaxed as we are able to cope with time better. In the end, much of life comes down to our own self-awareness. How does DISC Time Management work?
We start the process by evaluating time management effectiveness in 12 critical areas:
- Written Communications
- Team Time
Every 12 areas have a score, the band has 5 levels. You can calculate your band and focus on your skill development.
An analysis of the skill gap helps recognize the differences in abilities that a person or group of people has. You will notice there is a gap from here to there, much like a gorge or a river, but what is the best way to fill the gap? The study of the capability gap is like the blueprint of a bridge; it helps to determine the best way to span the gap. There are 3 significant steps that include: assessing the desired qualifications, evaluating your skills, and finding gaps based on their importance. This table plots the time management areas by importance and skill.
We know it’s difficult to start the process. We have an idea for that, too. Start by asking these questions:
- What are your strengths?
- Where should you improve?
- Which categories do you believe are most critical in your job? Your life?
- Which category in questions 2 & 3 above do you think you can control the most or change most easily?
- What is your action plan?
